Advanced Ethylene Oxide Monitoring Solutions

Seamless monitoring for safe and compliant facilities

Montrose Environmental Group and the Sensible Environmental Platform are at the forefront of innovative ethylene oxide (EtO) monitoring solutions. Industries such as medical sterilization, chemical manufacturing, and healthcare facilities face the challenge of meeting stringent regulatory requirements while ensuring the safety of their operations and workers. Our proven, integrated systems, in collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific, help these industries by providing reliable, low detection limit technologies that offer real-time monitoring to meet compliance, mitigate risk, and maintain safe working environments.

Decoding the Latest Eto Regulations

With recent updates to the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and the January 2025 Interim Decision, organizations are under increasing pressure to control ethylene oxide emissions.

Under these regulations:

  • Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) are required for facilities using 100 pounds or more of EtO annually.
  • Facilities will be required to update their safety protocols and monitoring systems to meet new standards for worker protection, particularly in indoor environments where EtO is used for sterilization.
  • Data must be reported electronically every quarter through
  • Facilities that must comply with NESHAP are required to undergo full compliance evaluations at least once every two years.

Timely compliance is critical to avoid penalties and maintain operations, and we’re here to help these facilities meet stringent regulatory standards efficiently.

Comprehensive EtO Monitoring Solutions

Montrose Environmental Group and Thermo Fisher Scientific have collaborated to provide an all-encompassing solution for organizations facing challenges with indoor and stack EtO emissions monitoring, testing, and regulatory compliance. Montrose has integrated its project services expertise, the Sensible Environmental Data Platform (EDP), and Thermo Fisher’s StarBoost™ Optically Enhanced MAX-iAQ™ OE-FTIR Gas Analyzer and EMS-10 Continuous Emissions Monitoring System. This powerful combination enables clients to monitor emissions in real-time while streamlining compliance efforts and maintaining safe operations.

MAX-EMS-10™ OE-FTIR Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS)

The EMS-10™ is a 4-channel system designed for hot wet samples, providing highly accurate EtO detection down to 1 ppb and up to 10,000 ppm. Ideal for stack emission monitoring, this system offers an efficient alternative to traditional, slower, and less sensitive technologies.

MAX-iAQ™ OE-FTIR Continuous Monitoring System

The automated 20-channel ambient air monitoring solution offers ultra-low detection limits (down to 1 ppb) using Thermo Fisher’s StarBoost™ technology, ensuring precision even in high-humidity environments. Designed for continuous, low-maintenance operation and helps facilities meet stringent regulatory demands.

MAX-iR™ Mobile Monitoring System

The MAX-iR™ FTIR Gas Analyzer, featuring Thermo Fisher's StarBoost™ technology, provides precise low-level detection of ethylene oxide. This technology can also detect other hazardous gases across various applications, including stack emissions, indoor air quality, and facility fenceline monitoring. Designed for flexibility, it delivers real-time, accurate results in even the most challenging environments.
