AWMA HON Compliance Workshop Summary
In April 2025, the Air & Waste Management Association delivered the HON MACT Compliance Workshop. The event highlighted the urgency of preparing for evolving air toxics regulations for industry leaders, regulators, and other air quality monitoring experts despite the recent announcement of the EPA’s HON MACT compliance extension. Key takeaways emphasized that traditional passive monitoring methods alone are insufficient for detecting intermittent emissions and supporting rapid root-cause response. Real-time air monitoring technologies like FTIR and GC-MS are essential tools for closing compliance gaps, reducing response times, and enhancing operational efficiency. Pilot studies emerged as a critical strategy, enabling facilities to identify emission sources, build baseline data, and refine site-specific monitoring plans ahead of final rule implementation.
